April/May 2024

Music and sport are powerfully unifying. This has been demonstrated by our Morgan Bay Igxarha Song project, which was initiated by the Morgan Bay Dynamos and Morgan Bay Ratepayers Committee and produced by a committed team of local creatives in our community (all credits at end of video)

The purpose of our song is to promote our wonderful area and for the upliftment of our local sport and music, as the proceeds derived from the song will be used in our Morgan Bay Sport Fund.

The Morgan Bay Igxarha song was co-written and produced by Kathy Raven, Unathi Gwebani and Myrna Brunette. Then the help of Thembelani Xolo, Pres Milan Manager, who was enlisted, and wrote some beautiful keyboard parts, and joined the crew.

Pres Milan Netball Team and their Coach Thandi Dywashu started practicing a dance to accompany our song. This was workshopped at Igxarha Crèche with our creative team – much fun and excitement ensued. In exchange, the netball team received netball kit sponsored by our ratepayers. The idea of incorporating our netball team as dancers in the music video was inspired by work done in our community, in sport, by the late Donald Moore, Fioni Murray, Themebelani Xolo, Graham Noonan, Rob Jackson, and Yellowwood Forest’s Virtuous Circle Forest Restoration Project, among others, where our soccer and rugby teams have worked on various community initiatives, in exchange for their new kit and travel costs.
The final live recording was done at Art Studio 156 Morgan Bay, during a crazy week in early March, when a mini hurricane hit town and downed the electricity for seven days. It was pieced together with Wayne Naylor from Wild Coast fm as co-producer, who had the genius stroke to bring a gennie and a UPS.

We then filmed a Morgan Bay Igxarha music video to share with the public and promote our beautiful natural heritage!

Our hope is also to inspire other creatives around South African towns to do similar projects to our #smalltownsongproject. So we are passing along the baton for #bettertogether #smalltownsongproject #proudlysouthafrican
